Weird thing going on with Insert effects

I'm using a soundblaster w/ KX drivers...

When I set up an Insert effect and play something into the audio track I get a weird delay. It's not latency, it's literally like a delay pedal. It will feedback endlessly until I turn off monitoring. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? I've never had any problems using insert effects in real time before.

What exactly are you doing when this happens?

Sounds like you may be trying to record the output of that track onto another and are creating some kind of loop.

I'm using a guitar plugged straight into the soundcard. I'm attempting to use Amplitude for the insert effect (any plugin has the problem).

When the insert effect is loaded and turned on I hit 'monitor' on the track so I can hear the effect in real time. When I play anything w/ monitoring turned on I get the looped signal. It does it whether I'm recording or just playing something with no transport functions on. After things start looping I can turn off monitoring and that kills it, it doesn't just mute it, it stops the looped signal altogether.

I don't know what the deal is, up until two days ago everything worked fine. I haven't installed any new programs since then, it's like it just messed up all of a sudden. Any ideas?

Do you have direct monitoring enabled in your devices panel? When you click on monitor you should only be hearing the guitar's direct sound (without effects). With it enabled you should only be hearing the raw unprocessed signal in real time.

Check to make sure you don't have the signal routed to a group channel or something like that. You may be running the effects in a multiple configuration and not be aware of it.

I don't think I have the signal routed to a group channel because it does this when I start a new project. That shouldn't be turned on by default should it?

Actually when I click on monitor I can still hear the dry signal along with the effected signal. When I turn off monitoring I only hear the dry signal. When I record w/ an insert effect it only records the wet signal.

This is making me feel like such a newb haha

Make sure that the cards input is set to line in only, at the moment it seems to be set to all inputs or a "what you hear" setting
