Weird little thing i want to try

Hello, I'm sorry but I didn't know where else to post this, so here it is: I recently got a Playstation 3. I have a 4 track, USB mixer by Alesis. It's not so hot but that's not the point. I was wondering, could I plug the USB mixer into the provided USB port of my Playstation, hook up a mic to an input on the mixer, hook the Left and Right outputs to speakers or amps or monitors etc. and play like that using the whole set up as a voice chat type of thing, I know it's really a dumb question and probably doesn't belong here, but like I said, I didn't know where else to post this. (Or who else to ask for that matter.) So, what do you think? Could it work? Even, would it work well? It seems like it would be fun, but the only problem I foresee is a driver issue for the mixer.

I don't konw this for sure, but if your PS3 is like mine, then the only USB inputs are for attaching controllers and they're on the front. On the back there's just a HDMI output.

Now when I'm online (rarely) playing games, there are annoying 13 year old oiks having inane conversations that I can hear, so somehow you can hook up audio to the PS3, presumably via the USB inputs as that's all there is... but I've never tried.

Try it.. you won't hurt anything.

Apart from my obvious disappointment that it turned out that you're not a supermodel with a can of oil, a rubber sheet, and a penchant for elderly gentlemen... I can't really see any great advantage in what you're contemplating. Why not just set up your gear using whatever is the regular way of connecting to a computer for online chatting? At least you should be able to find more information about what to hook up where.

Don't worry, some great advances in knowledge were made by inquisitive adventurous types asking dumb questions and trying unwise things. Although I guess, they probably caused some exciting explosions too..... So just try and get some good pics to post if you do blow anything up in an interesting way. :)

Not really...just charge it when you're not playing. He'll only save time on charging the batteries if he plays 24 hours non-stop until he dies.

This could be my new goal in life! That and finding some oiks. :facepalm:
