I am starting to hate cooledit...for a few reasons..heh..but, anyways...

a few minutes ago i was recording drums. We got through the entire track..(3 tracks at the same time)..everything looked good...no clips or whatever. when I hit stop after he was done...and it processed it all for a second, all of the sudden one of my overhead tracks shot up in volume about half way through and it was clipping like a maniac...

it was just an abrupt change in the track...it *sounded* as if something were plugged in half way...and then all of the sudden it was snapped in the rest of the way and got like twice as loud...

but, that wasn't the case...I mean, maybe it was...but, i checked all of the XLR connections..everything was fine.

Did the take again....and it was fine...has anyone ever seen that problem before? who knows...

Doesn't sound like a Cool Edit thing - sounds more like a mixer thing or something.

A couple of times...

I've never had the exact same thing happen, but a couple of times, when normalizing a track, I've had the program inexplicably boost the entire track by about +40db, or something ridiculous. (Thank God for "undo"). Then, after "undo-ing" the mess, and without changing the settings at all, I re-normalize the track, and it does what it's supposed to do. Personally, I blame gremlins.

I realize you didn't even have the chance to "Undo," since it was apparently recorded incorrectly, but I still think you should blame gremlins whenever possible.
