Weighted? Semi-Weighted? What Do I Want?

So I've been looking for a nice keybaord and/or controller for a while now. First things first: extremely low budget. I'm probably looking at low end controllers here, but if i could find anything with at least a piano sound built in, that would be great. im looking at around 200 bucks right now.

i was playing a digital piano at school today. its fully weighted i think, feels like a real piano to me. the main priority right now is just some keys for laying down chords and midi drums. but i really want to play piano too. ive met people that cant play on a weighted piano because they've always learned on a synth action keyboard, so this worries me. i think i can get this non weighted (older but expensive at the time, yamaha iirc) keyboard for free from a family member for now...but i really would like some weighted keys infront of me.

so heres the deal. the m aduio keystation is semi weighted. just how weighted is it? is there anything else around that price point(129 retail) with weighted keys? or a better one with semi weighted keys. and also, how close is a keystation to a piano in terms of feel? should i hold out for a fully weighted keyboard? thanks for reading this unnecessarily long post.

as some one who drools over things like $50k steinways etc... i understand your plight... but understand this... if you learn "Proper Technique" then it will be easier to make the move later to a weighted action... and also maybe you'll have more of an opinion about what constitutes a good one.... also after years of playing i still find it advantageous to have a "organ style" controller available for some instruments...

lol ok so what youre saying is, learn how to play first before worrying about my keyboard? good call actually. im gonna try and get my hands on that free keyboard and learn some tunes before i worry about any 50k steinways. thanks for the advice.

For that budget, I wouldn't bother with weighted keys. Most of them have shitty actions, that would do more harm than any good, not to mention be frustrating to use. You'd be better off getting a quality synth action controller for that price.

If you can stretch yourself somewhat, I'd have a look at the CME offerings.
