Hi there,
As the subject states, does anyone know of websites that have audio samples of different brands and models of recording equipment? Pre's, AD, DA, comps, etc...? I know its probably a bad idea because people will get a false impression of the gear because it would depend on what the source was recorded with and how, and then also how that translates on your own speakers. Obviously, with converters and comps, the signal would have to go through a pre and you'd get coloration from that, so it'd be hard to judge how the converters, etc... sound alone.
It might be a little helpful though to get a general idea of how one piece of gear sounds against another, for those who aren't fortunate enough to live within reasonable distance of a decent proaudio place.
I don't know, does anyone have any experience with companies like Sweetwater allowing you to try out gear by shipping and returning until you find the right piece? If so, are companies generally patient with this?
The reason I ask all this is because of course this forum, and a few others, are incredibly helpful if you're looking for recommendations on a new piece of gear, but ultimately it does come down to personal preference. What sounds great to one person, can sound like poop to another.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks!
