Has anyone had experience with any webhosting services that they particularly liked? I was wondering if anyone has used nimbit.com, cdbaby.com, or one of the many other services available, and what they thought of them?

Thanks,

-M

soundclick.com is hassle-free, has few limits on number of songs that I've encountered, doesn't preview - you can post immediately.
Free accounts can post 128K, paid accounts can do 320K.
It's very lively - I regularly get 50 to 100 or more plays / day and I'm not in the Rock or Hip hop sections.
I don't think they have ever been up for an entire day, but outages are brief.
They aren't set up for selling.
This page from Paula Lynch is useful:
compare hosting services

I've been happy with netfirms and powweb. probably a little happier with powweb to tell the truth....

I'm not sure if you're just looking to sell CDs or have some site to host your music?

While I'm not actually on these sites as a musician I do look at them a lot due to my job (digital music distributor www.LightningCD.com. Check out the Q&A link near the top of the page for a detailed description.)

My thoughts on...

www.CDBaby.com
The king of independent CD sales with lots of traffic. They have a one-time fee of $35 and then a commission of $4 per disc sold no matter what the retail price is. They can also take care of digital distribution for various download sites.

www.GarageBand.com
Great mp3 site with interesting chart/ranking competion. Partnered with CDBaby for disc sales. I believe there is a one time fee to host music, $20 I think- or you can actually review other bands and get credit.

www.Mixposure.com
Fairly new site. Good place to get reviews and host a few mp3s. It's free for 3 songs and then you can upgrade ($20?) and have 25 tracks.

www.SoundClick.com
Kind of clunky and most pages look very amateurish. Still, it's free.

www.Amazon.com
If you've got a professionally made CD this is the mother of all internet stores.

I strongly suggest having your own site and then link to as many sites as you are comfortable dealing with.

Are you looking for site hosting or somewhere to upload your music?

For site hosting, a lot of musicians love www.hostbaby.com because of all the value added stuff they provide. They're not the cheapest, but hosting is definitely one of those things where you get what you pay for.

I have a site hosted with them as well and have been very happy.

DON'T use Webfustion - they don't know anything.

That said I'd make your mind up based on the package. If it's music promotion you want I'd look out for a large space for your multiple streaming formats and streaming support(your can stream through http but it's much better if your server supports, for example, realaudio streams). Most services are fine for a normal customer, so unless you're writing the new site for EMI I wouldn't be too fussy.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendations and advice, everyone. I'll be checking out all these sites soon. I still haven't decided whether I'm just looking for a site from to just market with, or to also look for something that could fulfill CD and mp3 download orders. Granted, that kind of service is really only necessary if you're selling a lot...I need to concentrate on having something to sell first!!

Thanks again for all the great info.
