we need help!!!

i am in a heavy metal band that is trying to operate on a very low budget, i mean very very low. we need a demo desperately but dont have the cash. so we have decided to take this task upon ourselves. we are currently trying to record through a pc, using ACID 3.0, and we are tinkering with sound forge. the problem is i dont have drum mics but i want a decent quality drum sound, every take sounds like im back in a hole. my cymbals sound ungodly and dont get me started on my bass drum. we have a peavey powered mixer( dont know model) and we tried using vocal mics for my drums ha ha ( i said a very low budget) this is only a scratch in the surface of what we are having problems with. is acid a good prog to use? soundforge? any "ghetto" techniques we could use? we desperately need help.

If you are very low on cash you will probably get better for less if you just got something cheap done at a local studio rather than trying to buy all the equipment and then learn how to use it.


Most studios would probably give you a break in price if you just want to play live and not get involved in a bunch of overdubs and retakes. Plues you will get the benefit of quality equipment and someone who know what they are doing.

In this case, I'm with Outlaws. Recording costs money. Get over it. Recording yourself costs *more* money than just paying for the studio time. Right now, you don't need a plan to set up a studio. You need a plan to make some money.-Richie

What mics do you have? The notion of specific mics being for a specific task is mostly a marketing ploy (granted some mics are tailored to sound better on vocals and some on instruments) designed to, erm, sell more mics.
