Okay, time to show everybody how dim I really am. Are the WDM drivers for the OS, or are they for the sound card. I just don't understand.

WDM drivers are for certain soundcards, they are better than mme drivers in that they have lower latency.
You can only use wdm drivers properly in windows 2000 & xp.

Drivers are programs that allow applications running in an OS to interact with and control hardware devices.

So they are for both the OS and the sound card (or any other hardware device).

Hi fellas, here's another supplementary Q: What about ASIO drivers? Where do they fit in, whats the difference between WDM, and ASIO? I notice my Delta has ASIO drivers and I use win 98.

WDM drivers and ASIO drivers work similarly. THey allow the h/w to interact more directly with the app. by bypassing alot the OS layers that MME drivers don't bypass.(thats y when u waveprofile the lights go faster for wdm then mme)

So if those snotty logic and cubase users try to say they get lower latencies...nope..."same sh!t different toilet"

You can read Electronic Musician mag January 2001 (..ups, go to atic already... :o  ) Page 130. The article "Who's Driving?" telling complete concept of several drivers. WDM, ASIO, EASI, etc... (12 types ). Windows & Mac.
