The thing is, i think the UAD1 and Waves plugins Value to Price ratio is really quite close to the same. In general that is. Its just that the big Waves bundles just have alot more in them. You dont just get a compressors and EQs but alot of shaping tools and alot of other tools that the UAD1 doesnt have. Multiband compressors, sound design tools, bass harmonizers, even EQ with a graphical interface, stereo spread tools, meter/phase/frequency analysers, etc. Its got alot in there that you dont use every day, but theres alot of it. And thats why i say its a very solid package. Your given basically every tool you could possibly need and all of them sound great. I love the RNC compressor and the C1. They are solid compressors and i often use the Renn Compressor on vocals over the UAD1 compressors. They just dont do anything really fancy to the sound, and some times i like that. Sometimes it needs opto and auto release and stuff like that. So they are solid at what they do. Also take the Reverbs. The customization on these things are great. And they do sound good as room simulators. And
the IR1 is fantastic also, although there are cheaper convulusion reverb plugs out there. Audiotrack is also a great all in one package that uses very little CPU. I used to use this alot until i got
my UAD1. I got so wound up in the "UAD1 is plain out the best" that i forgot about the other tools that i had that would be better. Xstatic jogged my memory a while ago about what else i could be using.
The UAD1 is really mostly known for extreme colorized EQs and Compressors. They are awesome and are some of the best vintage gear plugs out there. I dont find myself using the EX-1 compressor and EQ on it as much anymore as i used to. Its very nice but i like a few others more. I havnt been to fond of the gates and delays on the UAD1 either. So basically all use the UAD1 for is the 1176, LA2A, Pultec, Reverbs, and sometimes EX-1. These are solid, but they are few.
So you take the full package of UAD1 for with its amount of plugins and put it up to the Waves Plat bundle for say. Plain out you get tons more plugins with the Waves Platinum then with the UAD1.
Then again you do get a DSP card with the UAD1. But ive got a hunch that Waves will hit their nick into the DSP card market soon too. And probably will put out some pretty competive DSP plugs with it.
Waves might be higher priced per plug then their worth. But i think people look at the $3000-$4000 price tag on the bundle and nothing more. You are getting alot for that much.
