Are there any sound engineer's that are sufficient with the usage of Wavelab 3 or 5. And use it more than average, over Protools and T-Racks.

T-Rack is a rookie program though. I still prefer wavelab over it. But who here uses wavelab?

Come on, educate us rookies......

I read an interesting article last night about T-Racks being the end of good albums...well, not exactly, but...it was an interview with 4 different mastering engineers talking about everyone wanting to be LOUDER LOUDER LOUDER and how the industry folks listen for 30 seconds and say, yep, thats loud like we wanted....but they fail to listen to the album's lack of dynamics and don't realize LOUDER LOUDER LOUDER grows MONOTONOUS MONOTONOUS MONOTONOUS.

Interesting read though.

I've never really thought loudness were what was missing in my mixes. I think its more of the 3d sound, reverbs/delays/echos, stereo seperation, and not completing the EQ spectrum..(not leaving holes to be filled by other instrumentation).

Loud, I can do loud. Give a monkey a compressor/normalizer/limterer/master fader, he can do loud too I bet.

Why 3 or 5? 4 was great, 6 is out now...

I use Wavelab exclusively, mostly because I am too stupid to figure out Cubase. It's great for mastering, but has limitations for tracking and mixing. I am willing to live with that, because I do most of my tracking remotely.

I got 3 for free and 5 was the one I bought. Hey mshilarious are you pretty decent with wavelab?

I use Wavelab 4. What do you want to know about Wavelab? It has more features than I have sticks to poke at them.

What do you wanna know specifically?

i do use wavelab for 2 things...

a. cutting samples.. for loops and etc.

b. 'mastering' .. i like to cheat and use the batch processing

:)

What is an audio montage?
And how can I make my .wav file right under -0db
And how can I make it so a lot of bass is heard (from the drums) and how can I make it to where people can put it in their cd decks and turn it up so high it bumps without distortion.

Thanks

Everything you're looking for (except how to make things sound right) is in the manual. The "sound right" part is listening to what the mix is telling you.

That is where you put the CD together.

That is called mastering, you use EQ, compression and limiting to make the mix do that. How much of each will be different for every mix.

Most of that happens in the mix, but you have to keep in mind that most people (who listen to that genre of music) have the bass cranked way up on their stereos, or have high power subwoofers. That huge amount of low end isn't in the mix, it's added at the stereo. If you are making studio monitors thump like that, you have too much low end in your mix.

You mean I can't just go to Staples and buy an "Easy button"? :p

Sure you can, but you will just get hit in the head with a bunch of ink cartridges.

Thanks farview that helped me out a lot. Hey do you know the audio montage, is this where I put all songs in the window like 9 and then adjust them to work out the volume? Or not? What does it mean to get my cd ready?
