I use to use windows 98 and my sampler Akai S2000 together in harmony (via a SCSI connection). Now I have XP and it won't recognize my sampler in my programs. Is there some difference that I don't know about. Neither OS has a driver for it, so I really don't think it's that. Besides, it was said that the sampler doesn't need a driver to work with the OS. Please help!!!

16bit?

I'm not sure this will answer your question, but as I understand it, WinXP will not be compatible with 16 bit programming languages, as win98 was... so if the sampler is looking to communicate using a 16bit language that might be the problem.
You might have to contact AKAI and see if they have a remedy... otherwise,,, time to buy a new sampler... or go back to 98
I still haven't gone to XP for that reason.

Makes a lot of sense there chief. I follow you on that one. That sucks! I don't think that was a good choice by XP. Thanks though.

FIY: Windows XP and 2000 (Pro Server Adv Server etc) are all actually designed to "look like" their running faster on the front end giving the illusion of efficincey. Many of the things we do here actually should be set up as back end processing to speed things up. I put up another post here somewhere the other night about PC Recording and making your machine more efficient.

If I were you I'd go with 200 Pro and delve into setting certain things to run at higher priority. Also 2K can be "fooled" into running 16bit apps. It's what us Microsoft Geeks call a "Jedi Mind Trick"

I swear ... Spielberg stole it from US!... These aren't the musicians you're looking for officer... then may go...

So MR. Comptia, Microsoft 12 yr experience geek (tanlith). LOL Tell me where to go for this 16 app adjustment. I'm a tech myself, but don't have the knowledge you have about tweeking that in the OS. I'd appreciate if you just point me in the direction. I'll take it from there. Thankx

Sounds like you take Certification about as serious as I do *LOL*

hehehe...

I noticed you were originally looking for a Windows XP solution... So here it be... I'm gunna see if I can find that 2k answer too tho...

OK Gimme a bit of time here... searching the Microsoft site in TechNet is a royal pain...

I read most of it and believe it can apply to 2000 as well... I do wanna double check first though. :D
