WAVE Editor freeware ???

Anybody know of any WAVE Editor freeware ?

The WAVE editor that comes with Win 98 SE doesn't do it for me.
I have EZ Creator Platinum 5, which has an editor, but it's very basic, too.

All I want to do mostly is trim off excess from beginning and ends of songs that I have imported from cassette and VHS.
Most of the material is either live demos, shows, jams, etc. that have plenty of gaps, false starts, etc

If there are some functions, such as EQ or Hiss reduction that can be applied, would be cool features to have. This can be done too with my burning software, but I want to fix it all up first before burning.

Any suggestions ???
 
How about cheapware?

Freeware isn't the only option. Try your local source of obsolete software. Where I live I can go to the nearest Half Price Books, root around in the used software, and grab an old copy of MAGIX music studio (version 6, I believe) for $8. Plenty of oomph for the uses you're describing. So what if it's three, four years old and will only record/edit/EQ/etc. up to 16 bit / 48K samples per second? "Better" is the enemy of "good enough".
 
I have a Boss 1600 Digital recorder with a USB port for connection to a PC, would audacity be any good for me to use for editing wave forms and frequencies?
I can do this on the Boss to an extent but would like to visualize the frequencies and waveforms to edit. :confused:
