Wats Best For Vocals?

Hi, im just coming from the mixing/mastering board and we were discussing compression. Now i know cool edit has compression setting in it but i've been told time and time again that i should just find my own and not waste my time. Well im back now to ask wat are some compression setting for vocals other cool edit users use that might help them stand out on tracks because im trying to get mine to sound as close to a retail cd as possible, and is compression a must needed all the time or some of the time.

Use a ratio of about 3:1. Try an attack time of about 25 ms. Try a release time of about 100 ms.

If your stuff turns out sounding like mine, who ya gonna blame? Me? You?
