Was recording much fun??

Miro, yeah thats the other side of the coin.

I do a lot of writing in the studio. Adding one piece of the musical puzzle at a time, wearing all the hats.

That process is fun as well.
However, I veiw that as the writing and song demo process.

Come time to record, have the musicians learn their parts, rehearse, then record.

And yeah, recording the band IS pretty easy. If you know your gear and your room, and have recorded enough people, you pretty much have worked out a foolproof formula.

I guess all of it is fun no matter what the process or recording medium, or we wouldnt do it, eh?

There was a time where I still entertained the idea of forming a band that I could take a lot of my music to, and have the band record it...and of course, I always was and would be open to input from the other band members AFA their original songs.
Thing is...it just doesn't work out that easily.
Either I'm the only one pushing originals...or everyone wants to just do their own shit (which is why there are so many solo musicians recording these days). Not to mention...even after you get 4-5 guys who might be interested, you still have to slog through all the personal dramas and music directions trying to get everyone generally on the same page...or at least in sight of the ballpark.
It's not easy forming a new band, taking the time to make it really gel, getting in-tune with each others abilities and musical directions, not to mention personalities...etc...etc...
...and THEN getting down to some band recording where all that would pay off in recording process.

If on the other hand you mean hiring a bunch of guys to just come in and record your tracks in order to get that "band" vibe....meh....I would rather just do it myself. At least that way I can just plod along without a lot of discussion, and I enjoy the per-production process, being able to just mess around in the studio and work things out and try things out without 4 other people sitting there looking bored. :D
 
In LA and in my line of work, finding musicians isn't a problem. New people, people you've played with in the past, guys you've recorded.....etc, etc.


The only problem is, I'm not in LA anymore. Lol.
Still know the people, but bringing a deck and a desk down there is a bit problematic.

I'm at the ass-end of the original music/recording world. :D

Around here...it's one of three things...old-timers wanting to relive their youth and just to classic covers, stupid tribute bands, or the party band circuit.

There's some people around here looking for musicians to record with...but it's mostly band whores looking for more cover gigs...and it's all boring fucking, played to death covers for the most part. :facepalm:
