Gone
This is not really big news...but anybody who's been shopping for video cards should note that it appears as though Visiontek has gone under. They were one of the leading manufacturers of nVidia-based cards (Geforce, etc). Their website is still up and there is no notice of this, but I've seen it on a couple geek sites this morning.

Not a big whoop, but if you've been shopping for a video card for your DAW, then you might avoid VisionTek (I'm sure their products will take a while to sell out)....unless maybe you pick something up cheap on liquidation, but that rarely happens. Drivers aren't really an issue since most people use nVidia detonators anyhow.

Slackmaster,

I bought a Firewire card (ULEAD) and the software sucks.... Do you know of any real simple DV editing software........

I just want to be able to cut and paste scenes together, and not have to be a rocket scientist to do it.... Maybe add some music and titles......Any suggestions..?

(Why do I ask?)... I see your talking about video in your post and figured you might know about about this...

Ahead (the Nero guys) have a simple video editor, Nero Vision Express. Don't know if it does what you want, but I noticed it bundled with my Nero burning software. I use Adobe Premiere and After Effects, but I'm sure that's a bit too much for what you're asking. :)

BTW, back to the original post, it's probably no big deal that Visiontek is going. PNY probably has a better card, though it may cost a few more $. Surprising news though, Visiontek was the mainstream GeForce vendor, I know they sold lots of units.....

Yeah they were US-based too which is rare.

VOX, I haven't done much of any video editing...I've used Vegas Pro a couple times to add music to video and that's about it, sorry!

You know I bet Brad could help you out...he does a lot of video work if I remember correctly. So did Eddie N but I haven't seen him around in ages.

Ohhhhh Nooooooo, You mean I have to talk to Brad????? :D

But seriously.... I'll send him an E or something.. Thanks man.

Vox, I second Vegas Video 3, a bit pricey for what you might need, but you can probably get a hold of the LE version for cheap or free - or Sonic Foundry's entry level video editor, VideoFactory - I think that runs about $50-$60. Very easy to learn.

When I dumped my Radeon card, I posted in another thread that I got the Xtasy card to replace it. Well, I guess Xtasy is just a version of the VisionTek. Whoopsy goddamned daisy.

Well, hopefully won't ever need tech support or (gulp) updated drivers.

I'm not too worried about the price, I just want it simple....

This ULEAD thing is so weird, and there are ZERO instructions with it...., and the "help" button sucks..

I will look into that Vegas.....

Thanks Brad.

Man.... $600... Ouch....

When I said money is not a concern, I was thinking $299 TOPS... :D

Hmmmmm...im gonna look into those other ones now

BTW, Sorry to change the subject of your thread, Slackmaster.
I think I have the info I need, So, back to topic!.. ;D

Yeah, I saw that, so I guess for some it's a great bundle, but I wouldn't use that, I have Pro Tools....

But im gonna look into the LE version etc.. that you mentioned..

Maybe it comes sans multi-tracker..

Joe

I looked at visionteks site, and yesterday they posted news about how they are expanding thier manufacturing, which seems unlikely if they were gonna go spat the next day. I cant find any reliable source that says they are goning foom, so I think it is probably a UL at this point.

Vox - If you're willing to spend money, Sonic Foundry's Video Factory (kinda like a stripped down Vegas) might fit the bill, and it costs only $60. You can then upgrade to Vegas Video if you like for $199...a bit strange, but whatever.

Ahhh, an update:

Looks like they're not dead yet. I've used their products in the past, it would be nice to see them continue!

BTW, Brad...you got a Geforce right? You don't need to use Visiontek drivers....in fact I don't even recommend it. You can always use the latest Detonator drivers directly from nVidia for every nVidia-based card (that I've ever come across): http://www.nvidia.com

Yeah it really shouldn't matter. Even across cards, like GeForce3 and GeForce4 and all their variations will use the same set of drivers from nVidia. They're usually very good about posting stable updates too. :)

That is good to know! Thanks guys! I just loaded the drivers that came with it.

All I can say is nVidia kicks ass... I am very happy with the VisionTek card.

Now if I could just figure out what EAPOL means and why it is crashing my system...
