sorry jeap, for coining your phrase.

well. I'm back. Wait, no tears? OK. A little cover song I just finished. I'm playing all the instruments. Recorded on my 788 using a 57 for all instruments, bass is direct, and a cheapo shure for my vocal. Yeah, I know there's to much verb, but shit man, when you got the buttons, you play with em. I was looking for a little live sound. he he he he he

This song is a traditional tune that my friend David Crews does when we wed nite jam. I've always been fond of it.

"carolina in the pines"

Pretty cool DTB.

On the recording side, I think it's sounds good. Something is a bit boomy in the low range, might be the acoustics, seems to be the one in the right channel mostly but hard to say.

Lots of cool picking going on!

The vocal might have a bit much verb on it but it fits.

Nice Stuff!

hey Em,
cement man, cement, and the D28 going on. Real boomy. Martin and a 57=boomy, the way I like to get up in the mic. Nothing but concrete blocks and a cement floor. I hear you dude. My back feels pretty good about now. Just finished a 3 hour wed nite jam with the boys. Hit some licks. had some laughs. HAD some beer.
Bass running direct and the D28, boomy, but you know, playing a lot of music alone, makes it boomy. I always feel like there should be a lot of bass or maybe, just a lot of bottom. It's prob. my old ass ears. What'a you think. Playing alone makes music boomy, by a natural feeling of low end. When I seem to try and get the highs up it sounds like , kinda harsh. Mics! You think?
I hope you enjoyed the listen, cause that's what it's for.

Hey Dtb.........
Coooool stuff man, very nice tune. I dig that banjo in there, it really sounds cool. Is that a p-bass youre playing, or another bass w/ a staggered front pickup? In the future, you might try rolling onto the back pickup just a hair if the guit. has 2. I think some of that low boominess that emeric mentioned might be low end on the bass, and with a jazz p/u, you could roll that off without adjusting eq. Im listening on headphones though, so........... might just be me:) Great song man, lotsa good listening here.

Smooooooth!!! I was into this one!!!! lotta' bottom but being a bassist, I'm partial! Spacious and airy, this is 1 fine effort you produced!

Dude! I'm impressed! I know exactly what you mean about boom and Martins. They like to make a mic woof out. Nice licks.

thanks all,
Guernica, I always have this bass thing. I'm beginning to believe that I must like it. It's an old epiphone with one pickup. Maybe having all the low end on the bass covers up my lack of bass playing talent. he he he I have tried to roll it off some and to my ears it sounds worse. Maybe I'll try micing the cab some. And maybe it's the bass. Very old.

MISTERQCUE, like I responded to G, I think I must like the low end because it's always there in my stuff. You think maybe I was a bass player in the other life? he he he

Track Rat, I've always been a Martin man when it comes to acoustic string music. The boomy sound seems to fill the space. And of course, I really could use a nice recording mic and get away from the 57s. I think that would help a lot.

thanks for the listen guys, and the comments. I think I'll go to the mic forum and look around.

beautiful guitars dtb, your stuff really makes me wanna get out into nature. Love the bajo and the vocals. I'd like a little bit of drums played with brushes or something real subtle like that, and a bit less "wetness" on the voice, but those are me personally and they did not detract from what's there. Great job again, I like this one alot :D

hey again B,
you know I've been thinking of percussion lately. Not really drums, but maybe the percussion stuff like shakers, congas, and little gadgets that make noise. I'd like to have a perc. stand and lots of dodads and just add shit to tracks. Fun? Got to be.

thanks again,

dtb

Yeah, percussion is just that.....fun. Anyone can get a hold of some interesting toys and play around with beats and accents. Can really add a new dimension to a song. Keep up the great work and don't be afraid to play with some toys for some interesting results ;) :D

all around good stuff dtb..

you already got the scoop from the others, so I can just say I liked it..

788 sounds good on dtb tunz..

the two B's,
thanks guys, I always wanted to be the dude over on the side with that big square stand with all the dodads. tinklie things. then again, I can't even begin to think of who gonna play the guitar. he he he he he he

thanks again fellows,

dtb

i enjoyed your tune... that banjo is great.. I love that!

sounds like a fun song

Keep up the great work!

Jeff

Nice pretty song. Pretty melody. The mandolin is a nice touch. LIked the litte bass run at about 2:30. There other nice bass runs too.

For a song like this, I thought the reverb on the vocals was too heavy. There are good opportunities for harmonies on this. You could introduce them when the line: "There's a new moon, on the.." is sung for the second time.

Just thoughts. Trip.

thanks guys,
and yeah, J , way to much fun. thanks man,

yes, TM , to much verb. I agree, but sure was fun to use it. he he he, and guess what, no mando this time. Twin guitars, banjo, and the bass. And thanks about the bass. Been working on the the little lead type runs, I get so tired fo the bluegrass 2 step on the bass.

thanks dudes,

dtb

dang...it sounds like you actually set your beer down, and added some reverb and Nashville "slick" to your stuff. A nice improvement. I especially liked the banjo. I gotta get me one. I think the bass is the "boom" culprit. Rolling off some of the 'extra' on the bass gitter might help ya out.

In my mind I'm goin' to carolina....Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in the pines.....what?....oh wrong song. :D
very nice dtb. There's a lot of stuff going on, I was surprised at how well it all stands out. I personally didn't think it was too much 'verb but I like 'verb so what do I know?
What kind of banjo you got? I used to work for a guy that built custom banjos. A pretty strange instrument when you get into it.

Never heard the original. The song still sounds somewhat familiar. Yeah, it sounds like that 4 Non Blondes song "What's Goin' On". At least the chord progression does.

I like the banjos. I'm definitely in a banjo mood today. I like the singing. It sounds soulful and full. Should be more upfront, though. Very relaxing song.

Hey, is this song just that one chord progression, or did I miss something? :D

Never mind, it's still a good song. I guess the vocals make this song. Oh, the guitar playing is cool too. They sound like they're missing some lower frequencies, but it may be that you did it deliberately, and I'm just wrong. Just a great relaxed song.

mix, hey squid, what's up? I normally have to have 12 beers to sing, even if I'm alone. he he he he. Yeah, verb, I've discovered verb. You can just put up a sign for me now, so you don't have to reply about too much verb on my stuff. he he he, and yeah still got that bass thing.

Damn Lt., you be everywhere. Thanks again. The banjo is a Sigma. About 10 years old. Got it from my pal David. I traded my son's old truck for it about 4 years ago. Not real expensive, around 650.00 when it was new. It must weight a ton. David says decent banjos weight a lot.

Crank, "Carolina in the Pines", old traditional bluegrass song, been around forever. 3 chord songs are my favorite. And at least this was how it was taught to me. The guitars, jam'em up close to a hot signal 57, and let her eat. he he he he

thanks fellows, for the comments, and time
