i just got a second hand 488mkII...and it warbles...
sorta faintly, but on sustained tones or feedback or anything, it's Really bad....
I was just wondering if this is common with this unit?
Is it easy to fix?
Is there a way around it?
Is there any point getting another one, do they all do it??

Thanks

you need to take it in(so do I)

dear pengo, I have the same problem(and have had in the past with tascam 4 tracks). I believe it is the capstain which is basically the motor of the machine. But I'm no tech head. I have always taken my machines to an electronic specialist. I usually pay between forty and eighty bucks getting it fixed. Whoever owned it before you just used it a lot and that is why it warbles. It is very very common. Just find someone to fix it and it should be good for a few years(depending how much you use it). Good luck!!

It could also be a head that isnt demagged... but on such a small tape format i dont know if that would be the case. most likely its anything in the drive system. a motor thats not working at the pace of another motor etc. you will either need to be tech to find it and fix it, or you can take it somewhere where a official tascam guy can probbaly fix it up, as it seems like a common maintanence for an older machine.
