Magic Bag Of Sounds
i'm sure somebody has to have an old midi interface they don't need anymore laying around. i'd love a usb one but i have pci slots open so it doesn't matter to me!

If you're interested in a parallel port interface, I have an old MOTU PC-Midi Flyer that i'm not using. It's been sitting in a drawer for the last few years, and although it used to work fine for me on a Windows 98 system, I can't verify that it works with XP. You might want to research that, and you'd probably have to download some drivers from MOTU or somewhere. However, it worked great when I did use it - it's a 2 in, 2 out interface with status leds to show midi activity. If you want it, I'll send it to you and include a parallel cable for $30, shipped.

i couldn't find any info about its compatability unfortunately, i'm not sure if its worth trying? they have midi > usb cables on ebay for $41 shipped, but if anybody happens to have a spare sound card laying around they don't need that would be fantastic.

You can also get a Joystick to Midi Adapter on e-bay for about $1 (Pluss $15 shipping...LOL)..So if your PC has a Joystick Port then the adapter will turn it into a Midi Port ...Many Old Sound Cards (SB Live) have a Joystick Port and even some motherboards come with one so that might be a Good and cheap option for you to get Midi on your PC....

Cheers

Years ago, when I first got into MIDI with my computer, I started with one of those game port adapters. But I had lots of trouble with it, which is why I bought the MOTU Flyer that I mentioned. It worked great for a while, but in time I expanded my system and upgraded to an 8 port USB interface, so the Flyer hasn't been used, and like I said - I'm not sure of it's compatibility beyond Windows 98. So I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to take a chance on it. A quick search on ebay turned up this, a USB interface advertised to work with Win XP at a very cheap price. I bet something like that would work great for you.

i just won an echo mia midi sound card off ebay for 15 bucks actually. its got a midi breakout cable and 2 channels of a/d and d/a i can use if i'm ever in a pinch.
