Hey Guys,

My first post on this forum, I registered to ask you this question. I am a Dutch game developer and fellow musician. I am making a Tower Defense game that will be available for Android first, and probably later for IOS and PC/Mac. I am one or two months away from finishing the game.

I want to have music in the game, let the player choose the genre or specific songs. I would love to make all the music myself but right now this would take too long.

As this is a war game I want to make dark or aggressive music of the following styles:

Drum & Base (Neurofunk, techstep, darkstep)
Dubstep
Sludge / Doom metal
Any other dark ambient music. I am also open to suggestions.

Are you interested in some extra exposure of your music? Send me your music an your details and I will let you know if it will be included in the game.
If I include your song you will:
- Get a free version of the game (I can give you a PC/Mac/Linux version if you have no Android device
- Get a notification when it is going live.
- Credits in the game for your music.
- No money unfortunately.
- The music will always be yours.

Just an idea that I have not at all worked out yet:
My main priority is to get the game up for sale ASAP. After that I might have a look into an option of selling the game music as a pack, or songs individually. You will get your say in this, and of course will share in any profit made on music... Any idea's here are welcome too.

Let me know....

Oh yes! Yes sir, DESPERATELY! Can I also shine your shoes and wash your dirty condoms?

Oh thank you, THANK YOU SIR!

It is not like you should be honoured nor was I putting it that way. No need to get frustrated (if you weren't already).

I was hoping to get a few good original tunes in my game this way. The idea of selling the music later on was just an idea that might earn some money, and yes I would not bet my mother on it (my mother-in-law I would). I have never requested such a thing before and was wondering what the response would be if any. If nobody is interested, which looks to be the case, then that is really not a big issue. My life will continue...

Take care, chill out and go outside every once in a while ;)

So I'm guessing weird, poppy, nerd punk won't fit the bill?

Hey Steve,

Great recording, sounds very tight & professional, however it is a bit too cheerful for what I have in mind for this game. I appreciate your response!

Well I have this idea in mind what music fits the game. It is a war game, so I want some aggressive music with it and it has to be somewhat mystical... ambient. Sludge/doom metal, drum&bass, dubstep all of the deep/dark kind.

Sorry to be so picky ;) I will probably end up getting some creative commons remixes.

When do you want this music by?

I have one or two things that may fit what you're looking for, but they're not really finished yet.

Also, how long should the music be ideally?

Hey Nitrox,

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. I reckon I will finish the game in one or two months, possibly even longer depending on the time I can put in to it. I can always add music later by means of updating the game. I too really want to get some of my own stuff in there. I have a dubstep track and a metal track, both needing finishing (time...).

As for the length; Is probably best to keep the tracks below 30 minutes, but if you want to make a 2 hour or 5 minute composition that is fine. I prefer a two hour track over a 5 minute one but my main concern is that the sound and feel goes with the game (and I suppose inevitably my personal preference will influence, which is dark, atmospheric, somewhat monotonous definitely no happy voices.... when it fits that description music style doesn't matter that much).

something maybe?

Below is a link to a song i have put on soundcloud. I've been thinking about trying getting my music on an indie game for a while as it is the sort of genre of music I like to make :) if this is not the sort of thing you're looking for I may have something else hidden somewhere on my computer :P just let me know.

(www).soundcloud.com/hdf93/velocity (ignore the brackets around www, it wont let me post a link for some reason -_- )

Good luck with the game btw, hope it is going well.

Hey Henri,

Thanks!
I would prefer it darker, but it is a really nice track! I think it would fit in the game. Good job.

thankyou :) glad you like it. hmm, looking through my computer i dont think i have anything really that dark at the moment, but i may have in a while as i have a couple of things i'm working on. I may get back to you nearer the time with something new, but if you would like to put this in the game also then that is great :) but i understand you not wanting too if it doesn't fit right with the game.

I think the reaction you're getting is people generally expect to be paid for providing music - you wouldn't let your customers have your game for free for "exposure," would you? For you, a game is the end product. For us, music is.

I'm an instrumental guitarist who writes ambient stuff as well as a fair amount of relatively heavy stuff, and I'd be happy to write and record something for your project. However, I would expect to do so either for a flat up-front payment or for a specified percentage of the gross revenue sales of the game would generate. I'd also expect to see a couple screenshots to get a sense of the look and feel of the game, partly to make sure I was delivering something that would fit and partly to make sure it's a project I'd even want my music associated with.

So, if you want music, my suggestion would be that - post up some screen captures or a bit of live video footage of the game being played as it is, and then talk about how you plan on compensating the artist.

I probably can give you a five minute "demo" in about a week or so, if you like that, and if I have the time, I can extend it into a 25-30 minute track.

I'll post link on this thread when I can.

Hope that works for you

I might have a short 4-5 minute track ready at some point this week, if you like it, and I have the time, I'll flesh it out into a 20 minute or so track. If that works for you, I'll just post a link here once it's ready.

Hope the development is going well

This x 1000000000 ^^^^^

Everyone already gets free exposure. This is the internet. You can expose yourself all over the place. You sir need to pay up. You need to pay in advance and give a percentage. Or....sit back and wait for gullible people to hand you their shit for free. I can't blame you for taking advantage of dummies.

video game guy....post your ad in Austin TX craigslist....
now this is a town that can play for free like no other...plus the over glorified home of Dell Computers

I've got a short demo of the track that I have made, kind of tweaked something I was already working on to make it darker and with some 8-bit synths. Hopefully it's what you're looking for. I'm planning to make it a bit longer in length and also mix and master it properly:

I'll do it for $500, assuming I have to write no more than 10 minutes worth of music.

Otherwise the rate will just be $50 per minute of audio, as long as you're not picky. I usually charge more, but as of now I'm in the film market and would like to break into video games. Here's one of my pieces.
