I have a PC with 1.4 Ghz proessor, 256K ram, and 40 gig hard drive running Windows XP home edition - I want to add a sound card and software that will allow me to record, modify, and burn CDs (I have a CD burner on computer) if needed for this kind of work. What card and I/O set up should I get? I have looked at the M-Audio delta 1010 and like what I see so far. I would like some suggestions on other comparable cards and I/O setups. I have a RODE NTV mike and a 8 channel mixer. I want to be able to record music background from tape, record, or other analog media, too.

you have a perfect setup right there, get the Delta 1010, you'll love it and you should have a latency of 1-5ms under WinXP. i'd get a little more ram(512-768), and later another hard drive. your 1.4ghz, is it a P4 or athlon?

cd burning, i like nero. you may want to try it out. software, there's so many different titles to pick from, Cubase,Sonar,Logic,Nuendo etc... i use cubase and nuendo myself. if you wan tsomething simple go with sonar, if you want a program that is great for audio get nuendo. if you need midi and audio get logic or cubase.

I have a P4 processor - I am looking for a setup that will be flexible for the future and allow for expansion. I currently have Acid pro 4.0 and Sound forge XP 4.0 software and want to know if this will work well on the XP OS.

i think you mean acid pro 3 :D
P4's are decent you shouldn't get any pops bt you won't have the performance of a athlonXP. if you need a pure audio app, get a copy of nuendo. there isn't a demo of nuendo though, so go check it out at www.Nuendo.Com. i run nuendo, trust me its a great app. o and again GET THE DELTA 1010 :D
