I would like to record drums, the style of music varys from emo/ hardcore to indie. i currently have:
KRK rokit 5's
Studio Projects B1
Audiobuddy

i am currently using my stock pc soundcard  , but i seem to get clearish recordings. I am planning on getting a delta 66 and another 2 channel preamp (probably another audiobuddy), but i am wondering whats the best way for me to mic the drum kit on a budget. The 2 overheads, bass drum and snare seems like a good idea. Should i get another B1 or a really "value" set of small condensors (behringer c-2 pair £33). I was thinking if i get the small condensors i can use the studio projects on bass drum and then borrow a 57 for snare.
Also is it visable for me to attemp recording drums using only two overheads while i save up for the delta 66

For a minimalist approach, I'd go one OH. You lose stereo imaging, but other than that, no downside, and you shed potential phase problems. Two mics, go one OH, and kick. For three mics, I'd add a snare mic for the heavier music, for less intense stuff, I might go two OH + kick.

I'd get a second B1 rather than a bottom-shelf SDC pair.

thanks for the reply, i was thinking the second B1 would be better. My only thought was that small diaphrams might be better for the transients which is a consideration with hardcore. I think ill wait until i get 4 inputs before attempting it.
