I'm working on a demo for my band. Here is a drums only clip of me playing "Simple" There is a little bit of bleed from the vox/guitar.

My kit is a Pacific CX maple kit
Mic's:
OH- Oktava mk012's
Kick: Sennheiser e602
Snare: sm57
Floor tom:
Marshall mxl990

Running into a Aardvark Q10
ART Pro Vla x2 inserted for transient limiting
Sonar Producer 3.11
Monitors: KRK Rokit 8's

Please give a listen and offer your opinions/advice.

Thanks

Chad

I listened to it. I have no idea what to do with drums. It sounded like drums tho.

Well the snare drum definitely needs some tweaking, as well as your floor tom. The kick is sitting decent. You should consider panning the cymbals slightly to either side.

Your skill is moderate, just judging by your anticpation of beats, but its pretty hard to tell without hearing it in the mix. I think they could sound nice in a mix, but I'd have to hear. Maybe post the mix, if its done?

i checked this post cause i was looking for info on the E602,
see u got it on the kick, and yeah, i think your kick sounds NICE here man !

i recognize the snare sound, its kinda what i got,
maybe its some sort of typical SM57 sound...don't know

i'd be pretty pleased with this drumsound,
don't u have an example of the entire mix of the song you were recording here?

cheers

I agree they do sound like drums. I have to ditto the comment on the panning of the cymbols, and the china boy sounded a bit thin. But nice work overall. Really need to hear it in the mix with the rest of the instruments....

Snare: sounds off compared to the rest of the kit. It needs to be more in your face type of sound. It sounds hollow. Needs more crack/snare sound.

Definately pan the kit. Way too centre sounding.

Kick: fits well and has nice bottom and definition.

Floor Tom: Nice sound just needs panning/reverb.

The drum sound also needs reverb bad. It sounds small. Add some reverb to give it depth and space and make it sound alot bigger.

It might just be personal taste but to me the kit sounds like it was recorded in a box/barrel if that makes sense. It sounds hollow. You can hear your room alot in the sound. Again try the reverb and snare mic position.

Drums sound fine tracked. Nothing wrong with them. All thats left is to mix them into the song.
