Hi guys... I need some help to customize my snake to use it on my studio.
I have an 8 channels xlr snake, and i wanna use it as my wall plates.
I´m using a firepod, so i just need 8 xlr channels... but i´m kind of lost about other lines i should use...
Can anyone help me with this? What´s a basic wall plate setup for a 8 channels recording studio?
ThankS!

I'f your talking about a wall plate to channel various audio cables from a recording room to a control room, there are any number of ways to go.

Most wall plates allow for x amount of XLR inputs (let's say in your case - 8). and normally a couple of 1/4' inputs for various reasons (line level lead, etc). I would think you would also want some stereo 1/4' back out to the studio for feeding headphone monitoring and possibly some feeds out to the studio to feed speakers. It's not uncommon to see some MIDI in/outs included on the wall plate. I have not seen this myself, but I have no doubt that some facilities may also include various optical/digital in/outs for direct recording, etc.

It's really a matter of what you think you need for your studio applications.

partsexpress.com should have a number of different wall plate configuration pre-made... of course there are many other places too..

Thanks guys! I´m still kind of lost...
Can u tell me how many and which kind of cable/connectors should i mount?
My list goes like this...

MIDI mostly for keyboards and rhythm machine
2 mono 1/4´ for speakers on recording room
4 stereo 1/4´ for headphones on r.r
2 stereo 1/4´ for keyboards or bass
8 XLR lines

anything else? how about this cables being balanced or unbalanced?
Thanks ! ! !

You might consider one of my classic DIY plates. You buy a chassis punch for the XLRF since that's too big to drill. The rest you do with drill bits. Get a $10 aluminum door kick plate at home depot, punch/drill as needed....

what's a chassis punch? does it go under another name in the UK? I want to make my own plates too but as you mentioned the XLRs are too big to drill

in my opinion there is no such thing as a 'hole too big to drill'.. get it ;)

no seriously... use a backer piece of wood (2x4 scrap) it will keep it from bending around the hole, they also make metal hole saws bits....... a drill press helps too

if you do happen to get some bending, just use a hammer to do a little metal working...
