I need some xlr wall plates to mount in the live room, to feed into the control room. I'm thinking I'll need ten to twelve. Can anyone recomend a place to buy these and can I get plates that will hold up to 6 or 8 xlr's? And are there any special precautions with the wires thru the walls. I'm a little fuzzy about the back side of these wall plates, are there three posts for each xlr and then a cable that fits the posts that can be run thru the wall. And I'm guessing I'll need a few headphone runs too. I dont have a headphone amp yet but was looking at the furman, and if I read correctly it uses an ethernet cable.Does this mean I'll need a single ethernet wall plate also. Is there anything else I should consider as far as links between these rooms before this first wall is sealed up. Thanks,Mike

Hi snapper - just make sure you seal it all up so you don't compromise the STC of the wall.

May I suggest you consider adding a single guitar lead so you can plug a guitar into a plug in the control room and then pick it up in a plug in the studio and plug it into a guitar amp. Many guitarists like to play in the control room yet have their amps in the studio so a cable like this is a good idea. (saves running cables under doors)

cheers

What I did was take a 2 RU blank rack spacer and drilled it out and mounted 16 XLR's in it. And like John says, I sealed it with RTV where I fastened it to the wall.

HiMike,
You can get these at either of the following places:

http://www.markertek.com

http://www.partsexpress.com

Or if you wanted to put the one panel with 16 XLR's in-you can buy a 1RU panel for less than $20.00 that is laser cut, so all you have to do is "punch" them out with a hammer and a screwdriver, and install the XLR jacks.

thanks -it looks like markertek has pretty
much everything I need. Could you help me pick the
right cable and connectors? I need 180 feet of mic cable,
and 12 female, and 12 male xlr connectors to mount in those rack space fillers. Do I need a special wire stripper for this cable?
And then is it just a matter of soldering the three wires to
there respective posts?
One more thing-when mounting the xlr jacks to the rack filler
do i just drill to holes for each to mount them? Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,

You can buy a prepunched Rack Panel for about $20-$250 bucks-no drilling needed. It's punched for 16 XLR sockets.
