Hello

I am currently working on developing acocustical foam for people like I that can't afford to spend money on the Aurelex. I work as a estimator and purchaser at a Converting plant that specializes in foams and plastics here in Michigan.

I put a small design together for myself and am very happy with it. Below is a picture (not a quality picture) but one that will give you an idea of what I will be able to provide in the very near future. The foam is a poly ester, the same material that the expensive accoustic foam is made of. What we can do here is provide custom fit for your studio or you will be able to buy the foam in certain sizes and quantities depending on your needs. I thought of this thinking that a lot of people dont have perfect square rooms to work in and theres ducting, windows and shelves and such in the way.

The Product:

The product is made up of one main piece of foam that is 1" thick and the triangle pcs are 4.25" wide and about 2" tall. The triangle pcs are glued to the large solid piece. The adhesive we use here is industrial strength so there will be no problems with it in that sense.

I basically would like to see how many people would be interested in obtaining this from my company. The price isnt set yet for I need to know the volume. But I will post a cost sheet up next week when all the details are final.

Dropped you an email a while back. Dont know if you got it. Never received response.

Sorry about not responding, but I am working on getting the cost as low as possible before I go any further. I am basically first seeing if there is a need. Thanks for your interest.

I am working on putting a common package together. For example, 12pcs of 2' x 4.5' - 3" Wedge Wall, 12 pcs of 1' x 1' Wedges and so on.

So if anyone has any ideas on how I can improve this please let me know so I can put your ideas in account and be more personal with the product.

John

foam

Like the idea of a reasonable proced product. Also would like to see the sheets come in different paterns ( triangle. circles ect )and colors. The wedge design and lack of color options make the studio seem compressed and restricting.

It looks like a great idea.

I totally would not mind if I could get auralex quality for about half-price.

For ideas. I think you should develop something like the auralex max-wall. I would buy two. One for behind my monitors and one as a sound booth thing.

The max wall is a portable wall setup that you can move and arrange based on what you want to accomplish. It can be moved and wrapped around drums, or be used to create a 'listening booth' to monitor with. At least thats my understanding of it.

I dont know if the max-wall would be possible, it probably would have to consist of some wood or something, I only work with the different kinds of foams. I will keep it in mind though.

At home here, I have built a couple of partitions out of doors and then hung the foam on them and put them behind me. I really noticed the difference when I crank the monitors up and it helps clear up the reflextions that would normally bounce right off the partition door.

Actually I thought the max wall is basically just foam hanging up on mix stands or simillar. They have one that is 4 walls and I'd be interested in one too.

Max Wall

I have the basic Max Wall set (4 panels and 2 stands). I use it in a V-formation to seperate my studio from the rest of the room which my fiance uses for her exercise thingy. I also have Foam panels on the walls. I used T-pins to attach the foam panels to the drywall since I'm renting. I'm very happy with Auralex and how it deadens what was an aweful sounding space. Yeah, it was a bit pricey, but the folks at Auralex were very helpful with my specific studio setup.
Oh, the basic max wall was about $250, you could probably get 2 of them and make a nice pseudo vocal booth.

you have 4 panels but it's only in a v? wouldn't 4 panels make a small vocal booth? I was under the impression that it was MUCH more expensive than that. Maybe I was strapped for cash at the time and $250 sounded worse than it does now.

Here's a photo of the Max Wall. Although it's 4 panels, it's stacked so that it's really like 2. Not the greatest photo, but you get the point!

Accoustical Wall Foam Pricing

Hello, to all that may be interested, heres the pricing for the wall foam:
I made everything simple. The foam is a 2# PU Ester that is identical to the Aurelex foam. It has 3" triangles glued with industrial strength adhesive. (I have had these hanging on my wall for 3 weeks now and they are perfect.) I can only do one size, but they are easily cut with a carpenters knife, so Ill leave that stuff to you.

20" x 54" 2# PU Ester Wall Foam with Triangle shapes.
Packaging is included in the price but shipping is extra. Count on around $15.00 depending on where you live.

6 pcs - 45 sq.ft - $108.00

8 pcs - 60 sq.ft - $136.00

16 pcs - 120 sq.ft - $240.00

Foam is shipped 2 to a box. If you have any questions please email me. Payment can be sent to the address below. Money orders only please. Thanks, I hope you decide to go with this foam. It does work very well.

Can you get it cheaper? I did the best i could with what i have.

You are correct, auralex prices are slightly more costly, but do I know without a doubt what I am getting with auralex? Yes.

Your prices are within the same scope, although, if I had some extra hundreds layin around, I would give yours a try.

Believe me when i say this, Im not trying to get rich this stuff, but only to provide an alternative. The foam works just as good as anything else. I have it in my small studio and there is a difference after i hung it.

I just wanted to throw the project out there to see if there was any interest. In square feet, my price on the foam is $80 cheaper. My employer wouldnt let me give it away or i would.

Later
john
