I like it. The guitar playing is great. The vocal harmonies sit really well. The mix is good. The only thing is, I can't hear a kick drum. Is there one? If there is turn it up. Nice job.

i boosted at 60hz, maybe i need a wider Q, a little more vol, and a bit more boost, another db at least....

OK first listen was on crappy laptop speakers. Just listened again through apogee rosetta and Yamaha monitors and I can hear it but I can't feel it. I'd still turn it up. Any drummers in the group care to comment?

you know, i'm on the fence with the vocal MIX, i'm not sure there's enough presence and sibilence on it.

last night, i mixed all the vocals to a sub buss, and on that buss, i put a vocal channel plug, that added parallel compression, parallel eq, and brought it up and brightened it quite a bit.

i also had to put a de-esser on it, because the sibilence stood out then..
and i thought, i can hear the vocals more now, but they're not louder....

but your comment makes me wonder if i shouldn't just leave well enough alone!

Brian May-esque approach during the chorus. Love it.

Not sure that the vocal line on this one is as compelling as some of your earlier stuff - But you've posted some mad fucking hits here, so that's not a dig at all.


Maybe the snare could be a little tiny bit brighter.

I'm grasping here, this is a great mix.

yep, may will always be stuck in there somewhere.......when it comes to layering guitar parts, and guitar harmonies, it's just in the DNA i guess...

well, the lyric, was inspired by listening to a buddy lament about being down on his job....
and i could certainly relate, from times in my own past..
so, it's really not got a lot going on there, except to commiserate....

but it's a great vehicle for some gettin'it'on guitar stuff!

i remixed the drums last night, and yes, brightened the snare.
took off a bunch of the room mic.
but the overheads have to stay hot, and a lot of that 'room' sound is bleeding thru the overheads...
 
Yeah, this sounds great Gonzo:)!

I listen to most of your stuff when you post, but rarely have much to offer as all of your mixes sound completely solid to me right out of the gate. I can be of no assistance here, but just wanted to let you know I continue to be impressed by your guitar playing and your overall sound.:cool:

it's still good to hear 'general' impressions, even if it's not specific to mix or eq or whatever....
i'm sure if something stuck out on your playback system, and bugged you, you'd be able to give me a heads up.
i'm working hard on trying to do mixes that translate to more playback systems, i'm not there yet.
 
The kit has the brass way high, but like previous comments, the kick and snare are un-naturally beneath them. I like everything else. It reminds me of Johnny and Edgar back in the White Trash to Shock Treatment phases....with a pinch of Joe Walsh, Derringer, and , yeah, Brian May. Swingin' shit!

yep, i always debate about cymbals......
i like the shimmer, and it balances out a bottom/mid heavy mix..
but can be annoying.

i tried to find what i thought was the perfect balance between the sheen and hiss of the brass, and the rest of it...

last night i went after a completely different drum mix and bass guitar mix with a newer version i started last night, it might be my favorite yet. don't know whether i'll post it or not.... may just save that one for an official release.
the new one, is going to have zero room mics on the kit... real dry snare, toms, and overheads. hotter bass guitar mix. just a different feel because of the kit. still experimenting.....
 
Love the guitar work. Im listening on some logitech gaming headphones and the drums seem too bright on them. But its a personal issue and these headphones stink. :)

glad you dig the guitars, it was fun tracking this one....
finding the tones, finding the groove...

bright drums, well, on the first version of this, i DID add some whack attack on the drums to get them to translate with more definition, so in headphones that lack low end, it'll sound off..

but of course, it's gotta compare to everything else you listen to with those headphones (which probably sounds better) so that means i gotta re-think just how much, and where, i need to add high end to the drums...

i've got a new mix now, just last night, that should really tame that problem, and still add meat and attack to the overall drum sound.

i'll tell you..
guitars are easy.
vox, are easy.

what's hard, is drums and bass.

and what makes it even harder for me, is that everytime i track a session, i do it different!!
LOL
