Cosmic Cowboy
Here's the second song I recently did with my new music partner.
I was already working on this one when I first hooked up with her, so most of it was done, and on this song she just ended up doing backup vocals, but I think they really make the choruses work.

It's kind of a Latin/Rock thing....it just came out that way.
Anyway, I just finished mixing it tonight, so I did a quick "mastering" pass on the mix, but didn't have time to mess with it any more tonight, so I will probably get back to it this coming weekend just to polish it up a bit better....but i think this is pretty close to done.

"Waiting For You"

I like the tempo and chord progression. The piano is cool. Kind of reminds me of The Munsters. The drums are very fake sounding. I know you have used real drums in the past, or gotten more realistic sounds, so I don't know what happened here. I won't even comment on the vocals except to say maybe you should let the lady sing more. The guitar solo seems haphazard and uninspired. Maybe that's an artistic choice? I know you can play better than that. I like the guitar tones you chose for this one. They're a little nasal and midrangey like you mic'd a small speaker, but I like it for the song. It sounds like a really old amp. Bass seems nice. And overall it's mixed pretty well. Nothing seems out of place or out of balance to me.

That's the main point. Thanks!

AFA the more stylistic stuff...

We actually liked the drums....they're clear, tight and punchy.
The lead guitar lines, we thought fit the vibe of the song well.
I know you never liked any of my vocals....:D...but that is what it is, that's my voice.
My partner actually insists that we both sing, and she likes my baritone voice...so I'll go with her opinion. ;)

I thought the performances were good.

I had a little trouble making out the male vocal. I think the rhythm guitar and maybe the highhat were covering it a bit.

Personal taste thing, but I'd like more low end in the bass. It sounded kind of lite.

I liked the tone on the lead guitar.

Agree with Greg the drums are a little mechanical. Hats and the snare get a little abrasive after a few minutes.

I meant "clean" as in how they were recorded.
At mixdown, I ran the drum kit tracks through a comp that actually has a "dirt" button, I wanted to rough them up a bit.
The hat was pretty loud, and I pulled it back a lot....maybe it needs to go back more.

Interesting you would think it needs more bass. I tend to push up the bass usually...and this particular song actual has dual bass tracks...one play an octave above the other other one...but I'll take a listen to it again....I can always push it up more. :)

I could hear the bass pretty well. It seemed to me like the low end could be a little stronger. I was thinking more like a boost in the 80-120 hz range. But of course that's just my opinion.

Generally well done but the stereo image is a little odd.the only thing that seems to move to the edges are the cymbals /toms and some of the fem vox.
I hear this as a little slower & blues rockier rather than the poppier current incarnation. But that's my take on the last track too.

The next one we're planning on doing is going to be a slow blues/rock song.....
...when you hear it, I hope you don't say it should be up-tempo and poppy sounding. :D

;)
