Just wondering if there is a way to properly reproduce a wah effect for electric guitar that can be assigned to a knob on a DAW interface as opposed to a foot controller or actual wah pedal? This would be a very handy for post recording when adding effects, for me it would be much easier to control subtle nuances with my hands as opposed to foot. Any ideas?

Or is there a way of duplicating th exact effect of a wah pedal through modulation? If so, what are the effects and paramaters involved? Then it would be easy to use a key board knob or modulation wheel.

automate an eq peak's frequency in your recording program.

Since wah is primarily a shift from bass boost to treble boost you should be able to do it, at least in theory. Auto wah plug ins do this but you wont have much control. I take it you want to be able to control the attack and be able to use the wah on specific notes. I hope you have lots of patience, its likely to be a time consuming process.

Use a parametric EQ with a narrow Q, and extreme dB boost. Then assign the frequency knob to a MIDI controller.
