No idea what a PACE extension is, and as the system used to be stable, it makes no sense. If a VST, instrument or effect is unavailable, then the worst thing that happens is you get the "cannot find" message -
the tracks will load normally, but in the relevant box where you'd see the message about
the plugin - it has !!!! next to it showing it's missing. When you say it's an 88 note ensemble - you mean a software synth/sampler of some kind? Best guess is simply system resources not being able to load something maybe if memory or HD space is no longer sufficient. Do you run it via midi track that plays the thing, or are you using an instrument track. I always use midi tracks and then decide in inspector which audio gizmo will run it. If you use instrument tracks and the instrument is missing, then the track either won't appear, or appears empty. I'd go back to an earlier backup of the song and then work forwards. In an new song - is this VST available, or is it totally missing?
Most of my work has at least ten versions saved, songname-01, 02 03 etc and going back is fairly easy.
First thing is determine if it's the song file or the system that is at fault. If it's the song, then you have to backtrack. If it's the system, re-install the VST.
Which VSTi is out you are using - that might trigger a response from somebody else who has the same one. VSTs are available in the thousands. Some are very well written, others are feeble. Others are very version specific on the software platform. Every single time I upgraded Cubase I lost favourites. On
Cubase 7, I now have the fewest reverbs I've ever had, because my favourites no longer work. I don't suppose you did an upgrade just before the plugins failed, did you?
