The truth is out there!
Hey,

I'm wanting to add some simple strings, piano, and hammond style organs to my songs.

Any suggestions for mac vsti? Lets say a budget of $50-100 each.

Thanks.

haha, ok, i guess there are no suggestions. i'll do it the old fashion way and google the answer myself :)

I don't know if any of these come in Mac style though I suspect they do now.
For strings and piano, try Miroslav philharmonik and for Hammonds, there is the great B4.
Personally, I'd vouch for both all day and all night.

Look at SampleTank--the rather robust starter kit has all that and tons more. I have both SampleTank and Miroslav Philharmonik--you can't wrong with either.

I would've included Sampletank but Miroslav has a wider choice of decent strings and B4 a wider choice of decent organs.
And I was practicing restraint.

Very true, but I was assuming his budget was $50 - $100 for each of the three instruments. If that's the case, the combined amounts would cover SampleTank. (Or would it? It's been a while since I bought it; I don't honestly recall the price.)

I think there's a free version on the IK multimedia site. But don't quote me on that. I'm not sure how it all works. You may have to be registered or something.

Yeah I just saw their free sampletank.

I've been using their free amplitube. It comes with a few ok amps, and you buy everything else a la carte. It's a nice deal for someone like me who doesn't feel the need to have 150 amp sims when I only use 3 amps in real life. It's actually a great system because now they're getting a little bit of money from me when they wouldn't get any if I had to spend $349 for the full program.

I think I'll test out sampletank free and see what it does and if it covers my needs. I'll also look at the B4 and Miro and see how the budget is doing.

Thanks guys!

I got Sampletank 2 Free. I'm half jewish so I can't pass up a good deal, and free is my favorite price!

It's pretty much what I'm looking for. I just wanted some simple solo strings, piano, 60's organ, and that's it. The free version has a lot more than that, but it has everything I wanted (except for maybe some brass that doesn't sound like it belongs in an Oingo Boingo song).

So, for free it pretty much covers what I was hoping for. The sounds aren't 100% authentic, but for me for now they're cool enough.

thanks.

When I d/l-ed and installed the free amplitube and sampletank, it switched over the drivers on my Tascam US800(in Reaper)?! I had been using WDM Kernel because the ASIO driver didn't work, now it does.

Sampletank does not recognize the USB input MIDI from my keyboard, though. And I keep getting this 'run as administrator' message'. I loaded it into a MIDI track, and I can see the 'keys' being played, but not getting any sound out of it, guess I'll have to read the manual.

Sampletank has a good selection - you can get the Large version for $99.

And Komplete Elements is only $50.

Hmm. Have you added the midi device in your preferences, and set the track input to the midi device? Sorry I had to ask because that caused me some trouble for a while.

Also, if youre using amplitube now, I really like the rocker verb 50 amp and the fender twin. I have the real ones and the sims are pretty decent.

As I was using it as a plug-in on an already-recorded track, that shouldn't have mattered. I set the device in the stand-alone (had to turn on the keyboard before booting the stand-alone).
Then the thing blue-screened me (did it last night, too). I'm uninstalling it!

Yeah get that off your computer. That's crazy. On my Mac with a focusrite saffire pro 40 I've had no problems with them. I don't understand drivers, so I have no idea which ones I'm using either.
