ok people, I need some help with my connection so that I can play VSTi 's through my keyboard. The way I have it hooked up is this. I have the midi in and out of the keyboard going to the midi in and out of my Delta 2496, all going to Cubase SX. If I want to use the keyboard on its own I have it go thru a Tascam mixer's line in. Should I have it go through both, or just the midi connection? I then go into Cubase and start with a 24 track template and open the VSTi gui. I have all the settings related to midi set to Delta midi in and Delta midi out. I cant seem to get anything to work. I noticed some midi settings on my keyboard display, but they seem to be more or less patches of different instruments when I play them just from the keyboard. Can anyone tell me if I have this setup correctly. I know nothing about midi, all I know is how to record audio.

I hope that you mean the MIDI Out of the keyboard goes to the MIDI In of the Audiophile, and the MIDI Out of the AUdiophile goes to the MIDI In of the keyboard.

If you want to hear the sounds the keyboard's making, you have to leave the audio cable attached. MIDI data does not contain any audio information whatsoever... but you know that, right? :D

Sounds like you have the right stuff set up in Cubase. It's possible that the keyboard needs to be set to transmit MIDI data. Or it's transmitting it on Channel 2, but Cubase is "listening" on another channel. It's also possible that the keyboard is set to respond only to local MIDI input from its own keys and so is not "listening" to the MIDI messages from Cubase. Or any combination of these things, and possibly a few that I missed.

The keyboard manual should tell you how to configure the keyboard to transmit MIDI data on whatever of the 6 available MIDI channels. Then make sure the MIDI track in Cubase is set to receive from that channel. (You could also set the Cubase track to respond to Omni, which means the track will respond to any and all MIDI messages regardless of channel.) The keyboard manual should also tell you how to configure the keyboard to respond to incoming MIDI messages and how to choose which program number (patch) you want each channel to trigger.
