Hello, I've heard the best way of recording drums and vocals is compressing them during recording. can you do this with vst plugins so that whilst you record it compresses. Cos every time I record with an effect the effect transforms the already recorded track and doesn't effect the actual recording meaning u can disable the effect after recording. This is supposed to be less good for drums cos u have to compress them during the recording and with vst plugins it seems that the actual track u recorded isn't compressed itself.
If u understood me can u help?

You can hook up your effect on a bus and have the singnal coming into the buss track, and then route it to a record armed audio track.
Wich is really no different than printing the effect, with the exception of it eating away a little at the the bit room.

Two things though.

1. The bonus of using digital is the fact that you can add and take away effects as you choose, nothing is permanent.

2. IMO its not a good idea to pre eq or compress drums whilst recording.
If youre wondering why i think its not a good idea refer to point 1.
