VST Automation and MIDI data doubling

When I'm playing a synth and twisting knobs, I want to record the knob twists as VST Automation Data (not MIDI data) and I want to record the keyboard press data as MIDI data. However, if I try to do this, Cubase SX 3 records the knob twists as both VST Automation Data in the Automation track AND as MIDI data in the MIDI track.

Is there any way to make the knob twists be recorded on the VST Automation track, but not on the MIDI track?

I tried activating "MIDI Controller Input to Automation Tracks" in the Preferences, but this doesn't seem to help.

The knobs that I'm twisting are on the same keyboard that I'm using to play the notes.

Perhaps you can change a setting on your midi controller so that no knob data is beeing send as midi. Or you could try the Input Transformer to filter out all the midi data before it hits the track (lots of info on the Input Transformer in the manual).

Aha, good idea about the input transformer, thanks a lot man, I'll check this out

It works beautifully, thanks a lot for the great tip! You always have answers to the tough questions, you're the Cubase guru =) Even Steinberg tech support couldn't give me a good solution to this problem.
