Hi everyone, Im very sorry if this question has been asked before, but im in a huge hurry to get some mixes done. I borrowed VST 32 from my friend to use on my computer to do the mixing of some recordings we did at his studio. Everything played back fine at his studio on his pc, but now that Im on my computer, I'm getting major lag. Theres a total of 35 tracks playing and it sounds like only half play (completely out of sync and at a much lower volume) and only one track plays properly at a time but only for about 2 seconds. After the song has finished, there are still some bits of audio that play for about 5 seconds. I would have to assume that it has something to do with my computer, so here are my specs.

P3 500MHZ
128MB RAM
20G hard drive
sound blaster live 16 bit digital sound card.

I realize this is not the greatest stuff in the world but its all i have on my home computer.

thanks very much for any help!

Mike

What are the specs on his machine? You can't go from one to the other and expect the same performance - especially if your's has less horsepower. What OS are you using?

Even though it looks like your meeting minimum and recommended system requirements (which is being generous to you), I'd hazzard a guess that your main problems are here:

Soundcard: do you have the latest drivers? You'd certainly get better performance using ASIO drivers - but I'm not sure the Live! card will do that.

Hard-drive: it will take a fast hard drive to keep the tracks going, that and with a 20 gig drive, I assume you are running the OS and the audio all from the same place (drive). Not a good idea.

Ram wouldn't hurt either

I don't want to say you're "SOL", but you might be asking a lot of your computer for what you're trying to do. Check out what you're friend is running for an idea of how your two machines compare.

I am not sure that there is even a 20 gig IDE drive that will run that many tracks without some major glitches.

thanks guys, yeah im going to look into upgrading everything, but for the time being i think im going to end up mixing at my friends studio. Thanks for your help.
