I thought I would communicate the solution to a recent problem I had. I alluded to this on another thread (which I now can't find).
I couldn't install new VST plug-ins. The adapter seemed to be working fine, but the plug-ins just weren't there in Sonar. At first I thought it was just Guitar Suite, but it turned all all VST plug-ins were having the same problem. All the old ones were still there.
Cakewalk support suggested trying certain things, including deleting the Excluded plug-ins key in the registry. Their final suggestion, which worked, was completely uninstalling Sonar 5PE and re-installing from the DVD. I also uninstalled earlier versions.
The problem is, I haven't yet re-installed the 5.0.1 patch. I am a little worried the VST Adapter will start misbehaving again! We'll see...
