VS880 vs. Tascam DA-39

VS880 vs. Tascam DA-38

Hey friends,

I'm in the market for one of these machines. I have no experience with either, but a good set of ears. Can someone out there tell me if there is any sound quality difference between the two? I understand that if I get a DA38 I must also buy a mixer. Can anyone strongly recommend why I should get a VS880?

You need some form of pre amp

I can't answer your question directly, but you will need to get a mixer or pre amp with either. I own a vs880 and when I first bought it, I thought that it was all I needed. Boy was I wrong. I was not able to get a good signal to it. Since I have been using my mixer as a pre amp, I get much better results. I am currently using a Peavy xr2012 powered mixer (just for the pre's cause it's the only thing I got). I puchased the mixer for live settings. I hope to purchase a pre amp here soon in the near future.
