VS1680 can't hear a thing?

Using my guitar plugged straight into the guitar jack socket on my Roland VS1680, i record a rhythm track onto track 8 ok. I plug a mic into input 1 to put a vocal down and when I press record and select track 1, the signal still comes through but the sound has gone?

Anyone any ideas??
