Never Sarcastic....Honest
I just thought I'd give everyone a heads up that VS Planet is shutting down in a week or less.

There is a huge amount of technical info from all of the posts that is going to disappear. So if there's any info/threads you want to copy and paste and save, now is the time to do it.

VS Planet was my main hang out for a lot of years. (I'm still recording on a VS840 :( ) The Planet will be missed.

Does anyone remember the VS Planet invasion here that one year? VS Planet went down, and a whole bunch of planeteers invaded HR and lots of flame wars and hilarity ensued. Ah, the good old days!!! :laughings:

Anyways...

Here's the "official" closure thread:

VS Planet to Close

Fellas, ladies, gentlemen, I was just informed that the lights will be going off here this weekend or a few days after that. Steve mentioned that the bottom line price that Steve (VSS) will take for this place is $3500 and that will cover the payoff of the loan that was used to purchase VSS several years ago. I mentioned this number several weeks ago and there has been no counter offer and very little serious interest. The bank is holding the VS-Planet domain as collateral so ownership can't change hands until the loan is satisfied. There is nothing I can do. Personally, I think VS-Planet is worth the price of what a VS-2480 cost 3 years ago, and this place can generate revenue in many ways and has done so in the past. Again, I'm sorry to report that VS-Planet will be shut down either this weekend or a few days after. I'm thinking it will be around the 20th but, I was told the drop dead for a deal is this weekend.

Nothing I can do except warn people that this will happen and those that are using a VS-Planet email account need to update their accounts that are using that email in their social and commercial profiles.

I notice that there are those that are concerned about the content here. There are no plans that I know of to sell VS-Planet marketing information: contacts, emails, all that. This has not been discussed, but, VSS holds all the rights to that information and the information contained on these boards.

It was a pleasure steering this starship for the last 8 years. All things must pass and nothing gold can stay. Long may you run, my friends ! I will miss VS-Planet! See you guys on the dark side of the moon!

It always makes me a bit sad to hear something good is coming to an end. Even more so when I only learn about it when it is going away.

Ah, well. Bon Jour, VS Planet.

Yes, I remember. That was a fun time. I've also noticed there's a diminished interest in the old VS units. Can hardly give them away these days, even though the recording quality is superior to the new digital recorders being sold. Must be the lack of USB. I'm glad the good library has that transfer program.

Must be the lack of USB
.
That's it in a nutshell really.
I brought one of the bigger units home to try it out. Dealer wanted $1300.
Turned my studio upside down, hooked up a VGA screen, mouse (Had to buy one of those green adapters for a USB mouse), monitors and gave it every chance to work for me.
Just couldn't convince myself to burn files onto a CD to transfer them.
Between that, the noisy fan and the lack of support, I gave up on it.
Like you said, great units but you can't give them away these days.

That is sad. I still do a lot of work on a VS1824CD, and I've been a quiet planeteer for a long time. And Jim Lad- just for the record, the menus on a VS studio have an option to set the fan to turn off whenever you push record or play. A lot of guys there have helped me out, but I guess the time has come. I'm obsolete. One of these days I'll upgrade the unit.-Richie

Now that I have your attention... :p ...does anyone know if the converters in the vs-890 are the same as the converters in the vs-1880?

Yep. I remember you telling me that a month or so ago.
Don't think it would have made any difference to the final outcome, for me.
But for a lot of other people, here's a great way to get into some good recording gear.

To bad that was a good site.... I had a BR-1600 then a VS 880 EX then a VS 1880 . Tascam 2488 neo now. RIP VS planet

Yep...it was a false alarm. VSPlanet was sold to some of the members and will remain open.
