good day,

so, i ahve recently purchased a vs 880, and am trying to sned my individual tracks ot my computer for further editing and mizing, but i cannot figure it out...

the problem may be my soundcard; i am using a Creative Labs Extigy external soundcard, connected to my computer via USB. So, it has a line in, and SPDIF in connections. connecting the line in to the master outs of my 880 picks up nothing when i set it up propperly in cool edit 2.

i have not tried digital to SPDIF yet, because I do not have the cable, shoudl i do this? i have heard it is better quality transfer? do i have to play with any of the settings to get this to work?

or, is there anything i have to do on the 880 to make the sound directed out of the master outs?

i am wondering, can you record this way (with an external soundcard)? or does the setup not allow for it?

Any help would be great, thanks!

The Roland's AD/DA on converters are not well-regarded, so digital out is the way to go. The machine defaults to the master mix being sent to the digital out, that will be fine. Mute all but two of your tracks, pan them far left and right, put the master fader at 0, hit record on your software and play on the 880.

The master outs should be sending audio, but there are many, many ways the Roland can be configured to vex you. Check out the link, find the Dan Barnes manual, and Hook's FAQ's (which, come to think of it, will direct you to Dan's manual).

well, thank you very much. dumped em down just now, worked liek a charm. the link you gave me was great too -- didnt direct me to what you were talking about, but i did a search for it and found the goldmine of hook's FAQs, great stuff!

thank you!

I would have sold my VS and quit recording without the Planet :D
