I'm looking at a used Vs-880, and they say it has a 540 mb hard drive, that sounds pretty small compared to the 2 gig 880s. I want the machine, but a larger hard drive, are there upgrades available?

Yep...

There are upgrades, I think the vs-880 can take up to a 6 gig, 2.5 laptop drive. Might only use like, 4 gigs, and you may have to upgtade the OS to a more recent version. 540 MB was the original hard drive, the smallest available on that unit.

Really...it's a great unit, and you can sell the old drive to a VS-840 user

I'm new to the hd recording scene.

I've been looking over the 840's 880's 1680's

you can put an internal hard drive into an 840? most that I've seen for sale on ebay have zip drives in them?

I know I'm a newbie so take pity on me...

Thanks,
turtle

Oh yeah

They don't come with one, but some of these "adventurous" guys have installed hard drives on their out-of-warranty VS-840s. It must be 2.1 gig or less, and the 840 will recognize it as a normal drive, with 539 minutes of record time.

Here's a thread that describes the process
