I use
a VS-2480CD.
I think it's great. 24 tracks @ 24 bit, the effects are very good (and there's a lot of them - 36 algorithms, 250 preset patches). Editing is good (it has a waveform display, though not a scrolling one), and VGA monitor display is an excellent feature.
The latest software version (2.009) does appear to be very stable.
Yes, it does contain everything required to complete the process, including mastering & burning a CD. Whether you'll want to use it to do all those stages is another matter. It does have a mastering toolkit, with EQ, enhancer, split-band compression & expansion, and limiter. You may want to master your songs using Pro Tools with Waves plugins, or sending it to a Mastering Engineer to get better results, of course.
With the 2480, there is one issue you should be aware of. With all units produced before Jan '03, there is a slight problem with distortion on the preamps, when you use the analog inputs. So, if you get one, you might want to make sure it was manufactured after Jan this year. If not - Roland will fix it, free of charge (though you may have to pay to get it to them).
