I am looking for a digital multitracker that I can use to record my band (5pcs) live, and then overdub or re record vocals, guitar parts, etc. Will the VR 16 record up to 8 tracks live at 24 bits? Has anyone out there done this successfully?
I have read through the threads on mixdown and backing up the tracks and I am still in the dark. What is the best way to down unload the tracks, mixed or unmixed for storage? And how do I get CD's after I've finished my final mix?
What are the major advantages/disadvantages of the Fostex vs. Roland or Akai?
I'm new to this technology and want to thank you all in advance for your information.

VR 16?? Do you mean the VF-16? If you do, it'll record 8 tracks simultaneously. If you're running an ADAT signal into it, it'll do 16 tracks simultaneously. It's just 16 bit, not 24. But that's CD quality, so that's good enough for me. I have one, but haven't used it real extensively yet. I got a Fostex CR300 CD recorder for back up, but it has a SCSI out also.
