Ok, I just got finished up mixing down all my tracks in Sonar down to one stereo track. I am checking for clipping on the meters, everything looks good. I import the wav and drop it in Sound Forge to do some final "editing". I press play and now my track is clipping all over the place. Why is that? Shouldn't the levels be th same in both programs? I always adjust my track to where it doesn't clip in Sonar and Sound Forge but I feel that maybe I am losing some fidelity, plus I think I doing double the work... Any suggestions on why that is?

Viceman -

The only meter that you should need to worry about in Sonar when exporting to a wave file is the meter on the Virtual Main.

Checking the track meters is a good idea - to make sure that none of the individual Tracks are clipping - but when you export to a wave you are "summing" the individual tracks. Therefore, even if none of your tracks are clipping, the Main might still be clipping.

My only other guess is that you have a plug-in patched into the Main track which is causing a gain in volume (compressor maybe?).

Thanks Dachay... I will check to make sure I don't have any plug-ins attached to the mains.
