So, is there a better way to automate the volume?

What I've been doing is using the "cut" tool to piece apart the wav and just change the volume for each part by dragging the little resize box up or down. Is this bad on the resources or sound quality?

Thanks!

Space I dont understand what you are saying, why dont you hit the little "+" sign next to the track and then run the automation there?

That's one way to do it. You can also either use the pencil tool to draw volume curves, or hit the "W" button and ride the faders.

Or click "W" (Write Automation) and use the mixer faders to record your changes and click "R" (Read Automation) to play it back. :)

That's how I do it. Seems like the easiest way.

Thanks for all the replys fellas..

Yea, I've never tried any of the ways you've described. I never could get good at automation when I was in the cakewalk world, so I never tried it here in Cubase.

I'll try all those methods today.

Yeah with my Mackie control universal I get to hit the write button and ride the faders on the MCU its sooooo sweeet! :D

you can do that with any midi controller that has knobs, faders, etc. i've used a cheapo midi keyboard for that very thing.

Yes, like people here say, use the automation - MUCH easier!

Click on the 'R' and 'W' buttons on the mixer so it reads and writes the automation. If you right-click over the track name area on the arrange page (main screen), you can choose to view the automation, so you can tweak it there too.

You won't go back. Plus the automation is completely editable, so you can tweak each fader movement and even use a pencil to draw your fader moves.

Enjoy!

just to ellaborate on what agent47 said. you can ride the fader via mouse or a midi controller and then edit the envelopes aftward to fine tune things. if you use a midi controller though, i doubt you'll need to edit the envelopes.

Automation is powerful tool specially when you can automate effects and pan, beside of volume.
(I use Adobe Audition but I don't doubt it's possible in Cubase too)

You can automate damn near anything in Cubase with ease.
