I need to buy equipment for rehearsing voiceovers. Portability is important, as is quality and accurate voice reproduction, although actual production would be done in a professional recording studio. I've got good mics (Shure SM57, older Beyer Dynamics), but I'm not sure I could use them with a portable. I'd use headphones most of the time.

My last serious recording equipment was my Teac 4-track (1970's), so you could say I'm not exactly up on the current technologies. However, I'm not intimidated by computers and such.

Minidiscs seem like the right technology, although I'm open to other alternatives. Other alternatives? Suggestions or advice re: type of equipment, brands/models, etc. greatly appreciated. Could go up to several hundred dollars, if needed.

I don't want to throw too many things in here, but I'm also a musician (guitarist). Would the same device be appropriate for practicing or other such applications? The portable minidisc recorders I've seen seem to be monophonic.

Thanks.

There's a plethora of digital multitrack recorders that will work for you. Roland, Boss, Yamaha and Akai make several. Do you have a set budget or more specific requirements?
