Voice sounds muffled.

Hello everyone

I'm having some serious issues with my voice

Every time I talk, it sounds completely muffled. It's to a point where there is such little tone present that the sound barely changes if I cover my mouth and continue to speak that way.

My voice usually feels strained, though I barely ever speak. Sometimes, sounds don't come out at all when I try (usually in the mornings, though I always dismiss this as just being sleepy lazy or tired).

This has been the case for me for years, but it is now getting to a critical point. I often have to speak up in class when answering questions, and instead of sounding like a normal person, I sound like a 98 year old, and that's on a good day. Sometimes I choose not to talk to people at all because even if I try, I can't output my voice.

There have been exceptions. There were a few times (usually when I'm either very energetic/in a good mood or very irritated and angry) when my voice came out strong, distinct and loud.

I don't want to sound like I have a tree wedged up my hiney. I just want to be able to speak clearly so that people can hear me and understand what I'm saying instead of just muffled mumbling.

Does anyone know anything about this kind of situation? Any techniques I can try?

I have surfed the web enough to read all the "relax" and "no dairy" common solutions, I have tried them, but how well they work is still a function of my mood or energy level.

Oh and just to clarify, the time when my voice DOES sound fine, when I said I'm either energetic or angry, its not during a normal emotion cycle, its during an extreme point, that's why its so rare. Otherwise my voice is consistent.

I will gladly offer you more information if you'd like.

Hope to hear from you, also share your own voice fixage story if you have one. I like stories :)

Thanks

- Erny

This is a home recording forum, not really where you shoudl be seeking an answer. You should seek out a speech therapist.

Go see a doctor. its probably acid reflux or something. It could also be bad habits as far as how you talk, posture, etc..

go to a doctor, if that doesn't help, see a speech therapist.

I agree this is bigger than a "it would be nice to record a song." issue. Go get professional help NOW!!!!

You sound like a bit of a cave dweller, somewhat shy, that doesn't socialize a lot, and probably spends most of the time "thinking" your conversations with yourself. I'm kind of the same way. All that being said, the muscles needed for speach are like any other group of muscles and need to be exercised regularly. Start talking to people more often as it can also help deal with your self confidence if that's an issue for you.

Man just keep working at it and do NOT let this pull you further away from people. Good luck and keep us posted.
