Hi, I'm not really new in recording but still must learn a lot.
First... I'm using a Maya1010 Recording Card with Cakewalk Sonar 6. Have a Samson CO3U Recording Mic. I think of upgrading to ProTools8???. What is the best way to record voice. ( example. at what bit depth & sampling rate ) My card can support 32bit and 96000 sampling rate.

Thank You
Oh, and its nice to be here.........

Record at 20 or 24 bit, and 44.1khz. The Maya, Sonar and Samson combination should give you reasonable results.

K, Thanx... but they say the higher bit and sampling rate you record, the better the sound. Is that true?

Possibly.

But it really makes no differene when you are starting out.

There are too many other factors influencing the quality of your sound.

If Sonar 6 can handle 32 bit float, it's worth going to that, not because it sounds better but because it gives you lots of headroom. This comes into play more when mixing since you don't have to worry so much about clipping as you add things together.

As for sample rate, some say that higher than 44.1 is worth it and they can hear the difference; others argue that it just adds inaudible noise and the conversion/dithering needed to re-sample for CDs is worse for the sound than simply starting at 44.1. I'm in the second camp, but the best thing is to simply try it and see (or hear) what your ears tell you.

The one sure thing is that, unless you have very expensive monitor speakers and great acoustics, you likely won't here much difference between 44.1 and 96.
