hi, i'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes....

i'm messing around with a vocoder at the moment, and i think i understand the jist of it. remember that 80's tv show transformers? i did a little research and found that the voice of soundwave used a vocoder. here's a clip for reference here. any ideas on what sample i could use to get close to this sound?

A lot depends on how you tune the various parameters on the vocoder you have, plus what basic formant and source you're blending... The sample you posted is just one note with a speaking voice added. A lot of "buzzy" synth pads could get you in the ballpark, though you'd still need to tweak the final sound. Also, you need a vocoder that has a decent number of bands to get really good resolution.
