I don't too much care for the band but I love how his vocals sound! I know the album was recorded in the band's home studio with Cakewalk Home Studio 9 or something like that...yeah, no kidding...they used Cakewalk....anyway, the label just had the album remixed, which could have done anything to it short of retracking...

Anyway, I digress...

I would like to get his recorded vocal sound or something similar...what effects do you think he used? What mic does it sound similar to? The songs I'm talking about are:

So Far Away (Especially the opening line and the chorus)
Cold (Again, the opening line and the chorus)

First of all you'll need his vocal chords....
But really it sounds like besides the usual compressing, there is a fairly prominent short reverb of some kind going on. Sounds like a small room reverb. The vocal might be double tracked too; I can't recall right now. And of course don't forget the harmony line. Run that through the reverb send too.

I think you're missing my question...I'm not looking to reproduce his voice, but just the sound/effect.

That's all??????? I know, I know...easier said than done but still...I expected something else. What kind of mic do you believe it was? Can anyone even tell? Sorry for my n00bishness.

Believe it or not, I've talked to Ed (singer of Crossfade) and all the guys from the band. They are from my hometown. James (drummer) has been a good friend of mine for years. I recorded one of the bands he was in with my friend Chris back when I was using my Korg D-1600 before I got my computer rig. They played mostly cover tunes. lol I can give you a basic rundown of what I found out talking to him one day about the cd.

Drums - Triggered kit into DM5 module. (Bryan was the drummer on the cd, not James). The drums are real playing, just not acoustic micing.
Guitars - Mic'd Line 6 Flextone and POD 2.0
Bass - Ampeg SVT-2 direct.
Vocals - I can't really say exactly except I remember him saying that he used something that was "cheap ass". lol. No tube pre, no $3G mic, just direct into whatever interface they used.

They actually used Cubase from what I remember. You should hear they're old Sugardaddy Superstar demos.....WOW. lol. Also, there is a track called 'Drunk' of theirs that was recorded the same way the rest of the album was but was not mixed in NY like the album. Check it out on they're MySpace account. You can really tell the difference between the quality of 'Drunk' and the album material. My guess is that there was a LOT of tweaking done to their original recordings and a great mastering job to boot.

Cool, I heard it was a Vetta...not doubting you...that's just what I read in an interview with the band.

I've also read a couple of different interviews that say different things about this. First I read it was Cakewalk Home Studio and then I read an interview that said it was Sonar.
