I'm new to recording and was just wondering if you could explain to me the best way of recording vocals - I found the Boss VE-20 vocal effects processor and it looks great. There are some videos on youtube of it.

Would it be a good idea to record vocals through one of these (into a mixer then into soundcard) or is it a better idea to just use VST plugins on Sonar to get effects, and any amount of reverb etc? I really want to get that modern pop full vocal sound in my recordings.

Thanks!

You need a microphone.
You plug the microphone into an Audio Interface.
This is a box that turns your analog signal into digital so that your computer can read it.
It also saves your computer from doing all the heavy lifting.
The software you will record with (DAW) is a Digital Audio Workstation.
That's where you add your effects.

Enjoy!

Yep!!!! Capture a good source, effects later. Find a good location where the room is not effecting your vox recording much. Get a good healthy, clean signal. Then will have something decent to work with and add effects to.
Have fun!
